Accused Harasser Asked: 'However Suppose I Am Madeleine?'
A woman charged with harassing Kate McCann allegedly recorded her a phone message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has persistently asserted she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges accused with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court learned communication data and evidence obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently asking Madeleine's mother for a biological test over that period.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a trip in Portugal - is among the most covered child disappearance cases and is still unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
Another phone message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I believe."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "What if there is a small chance that I'm her? What then? Isn't that important for you?"
"I do not need money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," she added.
The panel was informed that via emails, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a effort to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with the police force who collated the information, told the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted close associates of the McCanns, as per the phone records.
On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."
That day Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I will persist and I will prove my point."
The court learned Mrs Spragg struck up a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in the county in that winter.
Phone records demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out through WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be taken seriously in the period preceding the visit to that location, that area, in December 2024.
The court was told message exchanges between the two accused, in that autumn, considering attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We have to assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the appearance to their residence, Mrs Spragg sent a communication which said: "We're currently positioned adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark similar to investigators. I desired to do this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The case continues.
