Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Significant Air Traffic Control Outage
Flight operations have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a major ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.
All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped due to an technical fault that arose around 08:30.
Several flyers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.
Services Recommence with Continued Disruption
Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
That said, significant disruption are expected to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.
An airport representative had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.
"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," the statement added.
Cause of the Chaos
The airport attributed the operational halt to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.
Travelers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the hub as knock-on effects are cleared.
