Dominant Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka ended the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and earned a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
