Jurgen Klopp admits coming back to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that returning someday remains a possibility. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell which brought continental glory and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed England's top flight last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the notion of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he told the podcast host: “I said I will never coach another team in England. So that means should it be the Reds...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests the choice could be mine down the line, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on what circumstances would need to occur to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing under bad weather through long matches; I don’t miss going to media briefings multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits around the place. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle vividly recalled as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the adjustments that won the league last campaign. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the idea it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and the effect on Liverpool. Jota died tragically in a road accident with his brother this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it's his character. It's hard to picture the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad as well. No one within the club might employ it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that on a personal level is challenging. Impossible.”
