Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period like this with results this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to the top, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
