The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
