Worrying Statistics of People Now Engage in Vaping, Warns Global Health Body
More than 100 hundred million users, including at minimum 15 million youth, presently use e-cigarettes, driving a new wave of nicotine addiction, per recent international medical data.
Youth are, on average, nine times more inclined than adults to use e-cigarettes, per available worldwide data.
Electronic cigarettes are driving a "new wave" of nicotine habit, commented a leading health expert. "These devices are promoted as risk reduction but, truthfully, are ensnaring children on nicotine at younger ages and threaten undermining decades of progress."
Young People Being 'Focused On'
"Numerous of citizens are quitting, or avoiding tobacco consumption because of tobacco regulation measures by nations around the world," the representative said.
"In response to this strong improvement, the tobacco industry is fighting back with new nicotine products, aggressively aiming at young people. Governments must act more rapidly and stronger in applying established tobacco-control policies," he added.
The vaping numbers are a projection since several nations - 109 in total, and several in African and Southeast Asia - lack statistics.
Per the report, as of this past February this year, at minimum 86 million e-cigarette individuals were mature individuals, mostly in high-income nations.
And at least 15 million teenagers aged 13 and 15 already use e-cigarettes, based on research from 123 nations.
While many states have attempted to implement e-cigarette regulations to combat youth vaping in recent years, by the end of 2024, 62 countries yet had no regulation in operation, and 74 nations had no age limit at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be bought, states the public health organization.
At the same time, tobacco consumption has been declining - from an estimated 1.38 billion consumers in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.
Prevalence of tobacco consumption among females decreased the most - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.
For men, the drop was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.
But one in five of adults internationally still consumes tobacco.
Smoking is associated to numerous illnesses, including cancer.
Specialists state vaping is far less harmful than tobacco products, and can help you stop smoking. It is discouraged for non-smokers.
E-cigarettes do not burn tobacco and do not create black substance or toxic gas, a couple of the most harmful substances in tobacco smoke. They contain nicotine, which can be habit-forming.
